Grandma and Grandpa Schoolcraft have returned to Vermont and Mr. Guru is back at work. Theoretically, Walt and I are on our own. But I wonder if Allen Funt has snuck into my house. (Just checked Wikipedia and I see that he’s dead, but maybe his son Peter is up to Dad’s tricks.) My […]

Walt is officially one month old today! He has accomplished a lot in his short life. First, he has mastered breathing and eating. Those may sound trivial, but they didn’t seem so during his first week. He’s gained about two pounds and about 2 inches in length, which seems like a lot, relatively speaking. Come […]

Walt had his 4-week checkup yesterday and the results were stellar. He’s up to 8lbs 2oz (3.7 kg) and 21.75 inches (55.2 cm)! The jaundice has cleared and he’s eating well, so we no longer have to enforce 3-hour feedings overnight! Of course, that doesn’t preclude Walt from waking up every three hours on his […]

Walt is a lucky baby for many reasons. One big reason is that he has all four grandparents living. Neither Mr. Guru or myself had that. Since it was Father’s Day today, they all converged on our house. Walt had someone holding him nearly the whole time! The weather was perfect and we had a […]

Walt got to watch his first parade last night! The Fridley “49′er Days” parade runs right in front of our house, so we always get great seats. We have a little barbecue and put our patio furniture on the front lawn to watch. It was funny to be a bystander and be getting so much […]

The print on Walt’s shirt says “Little Engineer.” (You can click the photo to see a larger version.) Mr. Guru and I both have engineering backgrounds, so it stands to reason that Walt qualifies as an engineer, just by heredity! We wonder how old he will be when he can use the computer better than […]

One of the fun parts of having a baby is to see the extended family embrace their new roles. My parents live near by, and it’s been great to see how excited they are, even when helping us with mundane tasks. Mr. Guru’s mom and sister are staying with us this week to visit and […]

Walt’s umbilical cord stub finally fell off today! I think his new belly button qualifies as an “innie” since the middle does go in, although it sticks out around the edges. I guess a few more days will be needed to determine final belly button shape.

Walt had his 2-week checkup today. He’s up to 6 lbs, 9 oz (2977g) and 20.25 inches (51.43cm) long. People keep commenting on his long legs, and now I have a good reason why. The doctor said Walt’s only in about the 15th percentile for weight, but the 50th percentile for length! Talk about long […]

Today is Walt’s official due date. It’s hard to imagine having spent the last week and a half pregnant and not having him around. I would not have chosen for him to go through the hard time at the hospital, but I’m still glad he came early. It’s like some extra bonus time with him, […]
